It appears that in 2024, we need to exercise additional caution and increase our efforts to protect ourselves. However, it is important to be mindful of how we safeguard ourselves, our loved ones, and our belongings.

After discovering trespassers on my property, I initially began using home cameras. These individuals would test if our car and truck doors were unlocked by attempting to open them, and twice they managed to break into our vehicles by either pushing a window down or prying the door open.

After installing a set of Blink cameras, I quickly realized their value when they helped me catch unexpected activity. These cameras can be set to activate with motion sensors or capture still frames periodically throughout the day. The first night I had the cameras in place, I witnessed a woman trespassing in our backyard and fleeing when she noticed the recording light. Another incident prompted me to contact the police after spotting someone entering our driveway and yard. This led me to reinforce our gates with heavy locks, a lesson learned from a former burglar who highlighted the attractiveness of unlocked backyards to thieves. Subsequent encounters with unauthorized individuals were deterred by the presence of the cameras, as most individuals, including homeless people and potential trespassers, now steer clear upon spotting them.

One of the officers advised me to post no trespassing signs on both sides of the gate, and since we have dogs, we also displayed beware of dog signs nearby. This indicates a clear message that trespassers are not welcome and that there are animals present on the property. I want to clarify that I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice; I am simply sharing the steps I took to safeguard my property and family.

Not only did we have cameras in and around our home, but after a road rage incident that had the potential to escalate into violence, I decided to install cameras in all of our vehicles. This measure was crucial because in case of an accident, there would be video evidence to clarify what transpired, providing peace of mind and preventing disputes based on conflicting accounts.

Various home defense options are available, such as security doors, electric gates with alarms, door stoppers, additional locks, and alarm systems connected directly to a security company.

Keep safe
